Share Six: September 2026: Something New to you.

Welcome to South Florida where summers are hot and the days are humid and something I do not enjoy. The theme for Share Six this month is {Something new to you} and we did that a few weeks ago. A confession, we started out at the beach so no big girl camera, everything is shot with my Apple phone. Photographing moving Jellyfish was not easy. We had seen a number of ads for the Jellyfish Museum in Fort Lauderdale. We decided to combine it with time on the beach, lunch and a visit to the museum.

Of course a trip to the beach with two babies is always fun. There is more paraphernalia to carry down to the shore for these two littles, than there is time to actually spend on the beach. By the time you have the sun ten up for the baby you are exhausted and ready to just sit. But the little guy has his Moana boat and he is wanting to go in the ocean. The side wash is enough to force me into the water for at least a little while. The hour on the beach was hot and then we had to drag everything back up to the car. Lunch was at Lola’s and calamari is always my go to. Well done calamari is the best and they did a good calamari.

Then it was off to the Jellyfish museum. While the museum is not huge, it is fascinating and watching these ethereal creatures floating is water is amazing. I have scuba dived in my lifetime and we know to steer clear of Jellyfish, so seeing them up close was really special. Their detail is amazing.

We wondered why these Jellyfish were clumped together and were worried that they were tangled up. Apparently according to Google AI when they are clumped together it is known as a swarm or a bloom. We thought that perhaps this was how the reproduced but apparently not. It sounds like a whole lot of luck. From what I have read, male and female Jellyfish release sperm and eggs into the water and then the fertilized egg is formed. That terms into a larva which floats until it can embed on a rock or something it can attach to. The Lava becomes a polyp which feeds on plankton. It appears a Jellyfish can clone itself into multiples. One by one they drift off. This phase of the Jellyfish is known as Ephyrae. According to AI this Ephyrae then grows into the Medusa (grown Jellyfish) and then starts the whole process all over again.

Added to that that an immersive floor showing going on which Luka just loved and we had difficulty getting him off the floor

If you get a chance to visit a Jellyfish museum I would definitely recommend it. There is a whole world under that sea level that few get to experience. I have been lucky to do so with our years of scuba diving, but there are certain things I swam away from rather than to. Seeing these creatures up close if a beautiful experience.
